There are some specific files that are unable to access while you are performing the task of exploring folders and files in your system. There are two types of files Windows 8.1 hides. Steps to Show Hidden Files and Folders in Windows 8.1
Step 1: You need to click the option “File Explorer” that can be found next to the “Start” button on the bottom of your screen.
Step 2: Now you need to click on the “Libraries”. It can be seen in the image below.
Step 3: Here, you will see some options with boxes in front of them as you click on the “View” option. You need to check the boxes “File Name Extensions” and “Hidden Items“.
Now you would be able to view the hidden files in Windows 8.1.
Show Hidden as Well as System Files in Windows 8.1
You can see not only the hidden files, but also the system files in Windows 8.1. Follow the steps below to make these files visible for you.
Step 1: You need to go to the app “Control Panel” from the Windows 8.1 apps.
Step 2: Click on the option “Appearance and Personalization” in this app as it has been shown in the screenshot below.
Step 3: Now you will see a category “Folder Options” where you need to click the option “Show Hidden Files and Folders“.
Step 4: Now a window appears and there is an option to “show hidden files, folders or drives”, simply check this box to show all hidden files in Windows 8.1. Also un-check the box “Hide Protected Operating System Files (Recommended). You would be able to view the system files by unchecking this option.
Step 7: Once you have done this job, you need to click the option “Apply” and “OK” to save changes.
